Miniature Mission Style Oak Occasional Chair

PDF TEMPLATE FILE

Print out the PDF file above before you begin.  The templates and cut out sheets will be printed accurately if you set your printer to make no adjustments to the file.  This tutorial will have more detailed information than the PDF file - so use it to construct the chair.

You can make this miniature chair in two different ways: The best method is to build the mini chair by creating mortised joints in the same manor a real chair is made. Which is a lot easier than you think. The second method is to build the chair without creating mortise joints - The chair is weaker but still looks the same. If you opt for this method - just cut the pieces without leaving the extra length for the mortise joints and use butt glued joints.

Wood Needed: The most commonly wood used for this type of chair is Oak – In miniature use Bass Wood, and stain like Oak!

For posts (legs) use 0.14583” = 7/48” wood – If you can’t get or make 7/48” wood, you can substitute 1/8”.

For Seat, & all except the back slats use 0.07292” = 7/96” – If you can’t get or make 7/96” wood, you can substitute 1/16”.

For the 3 back slats use 0.0625” = 1/16”.

Tools Needed: This chair can be built with very simple hand tools or power tools – whichever you prefer.

X-Acto Knife – Miter Box and saw – Clamps – Strip Cutter – Measuring Tool – Glue – Stain – Seat Cover & Padding
